I am trying to start a career in fundraising and looking for advice on how to get more relevant experience and training. After I finished a Masters course in History of Art in 2015 I was unable to work for a few years due to mental illness. However, by the beginning of this year I was feeling much better and last month I finished the Charity Fast-Track course run by Utopy and Child.org. As part of the course I raised money for Child.org and learned much about the charity sector as a whole. I am now about to start the IoF's Introduction to Fundraising course. I also volunteer at a mental health charity and I am working on expanding my network.
I would really appreciate any advice on how to gain more voluntary experience or relevant training in fundraising. Most of the adverts for voluntary fundraising positions ask for a few years of experience and I am not sure how to get that. I would be very grateful for any suggestions and it would be wonderful to find a mentor!
