I am a disabled retail manager and borough councillor who is a relatively new Chair of a local charity that has suddenly found itself running the community centre it used to run until four years ago with a new forward looking innovative group of Trustees who are are volunteers and doing our best to keep the Community Centre growing, staff employed and flourishing with aspirations to increase the community offerings.
We are based in the most deprived ward in our borough on par with the most deprived in the country. We host one of the four borough food banks, Citizens Advice, a pre school Nursery and counselling services for young people via Off the Record. There's a cafe and lots of activities including health and wellbeing, music, art, indoor bowls, bridge club and art, PiYo, Tai Chi and crafts.
I might be asking for advice for a while. I am cash and time poor due to my casework responsibilities, committee meetings, the Safer Neighbourhood's board and two Liberal Democrats Executives for Race Equality and Disability Equality. I do as much as I can to improve the community and lives of as many people as possible. Safeguarding and looking out for the most vulnerable really matters to me.
