Happy Friday yall,
I've been asked by our trustees to explore the possibility of creating an endowment for our charity. Honestly, this is not something I've come across very often at all so would really value some advice. They are interested because our reserves are currently quite high (a nice problem to have) as we are planning to open a new site in the next couple of years.
The idea with an endowment would be to put some of our reserves there rather than just as designated (where there still technically free reserves). Has anyone come across this and is it an effective way of reducing reserves or do most funders see right through it?
