This question is from a member of our community that wishes to remain anonymous:
Face to face fundraising / accounting - a small charity I support receives good income from F2F fundraising but this means their fundraising costs are high in their annual report. Despite this enabling them to support more beneficiaries, F2F is unpalatable for some funders / supporters.
They can't afford the outlay to recruit their own team to deliver the F2F fundraising and do not have resources to manage volunteers to deliver this... all areas have been explored.
Looking at various charities who also carry-out third party F2F fundraising, it can be really difficult to see what their costs are in this area in their accounts so I'm wondering if there is a smarter way for the small charity to account similarly - not to be deceitful, but sometimes the way something is presented can make the world of difference.
For example, as there is significant awareness of this local charity raised through the F2F fundraising, could they proportion a % of costs to marketing, there is admin around counting / banking / invoicing so could a proportion some to administration etc.?
Would really appreciate any ideas and guidance as the small charity has limited resources to have charity accountants look into this for them.
Thank you very much for any advice.
