Limited by guarantee - will we be recognised as a charitable company?

Nima Barazandeh Management Committee member at Coempowered Posted 1 year ago

We've been operating as a volunteer organisation (unincorporated) for the past couple of years advancing education for disadvantaged groups overseas. Essentially, we aim to establish ourselves as a CIO in the future.
We've been advised to register a company as a company limited by guarantee. Which we have done so but we're not sure if that will be automatically recognised as a charitable company (CLG)? Or are there steps that we should take to ensure it's recognised as a CLG? The main objective for that would be to be able to open a non for profit bank account and be able to receive donations and apply for some grants.
I'd appreciate any advice on these questions.
