Online filing impossible

I cannot file my charity's Accounts online because they contain Excel pages. I am being timed out after less than 10 minutes . I rang the Charities Commission whose advice was to convert them to PDF but could not advise how to do it. Why do these organisations think that charity trustees are IT experts .
