I'm helping to organise a pan-European 2 day scientific meeting for up to 100 healthcare professionals and researchers in Italy next summer for our particular rare genetic condition . We want to seek pharma company sponsorship to defray some of the costs, maybe in gold, silver and bronze levels, but are unsure what would be reasonable figures to pitch for. Would £2K, £5K and £10K levels for an event which may cost us up to £80K be reasonable? We've avoided using company sponsorship previously so I'm not sure of the metrics of all this. Any thoughts gratefully received!
Thanks, Bob

Hi Fanconi
In a previous life I have done something similar and yes, these numbers are a good starting point - though it depends (of course) on how that fits in with your overall event budget income and expenditure. It would be interesting to see the budgets to put this in context.
In general terms, medical charities are sometimes wary of commercial sponsorship because of the possibility of conflicts of interests, so do take care to ensure that these are carefully managed and the terms of sponsorship are clear and unambiguous, especially over things like sharing delegate datasets, or inadvertently giving influence over the charity's direction or marketing to the companies involved..
Hope this helps.

David Head   Thanks very much, that's helpful. I am going to look at both the UK ABPI and European EFPIA Codes of Practice to appraise myself better of the company perspective on sponsorship.
