Becoming a CIO or limited company

I am a trustee of small to medium size charity whose formal status is that we are an unincorporated charitable trust. Some donors will only fund a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) or a charitable company and there are other advantages from being incorporated.
But Trustees are concerned that if we made this move we would lose at least some direct debit payments as we would have to dissolve the current charity, open a new bank account and transfer assets to that account. Whilst we would hope many of our supporters would be willingly to transfer their funding some may not get around to it.
I was wondering if anyone had had any experience of making this change, how it worked out for you, and any advice on how to proceed should we decide to do so.
