Change from teaching to the charity sector

Amanda Akeroyd Teacher at Education Posted 2 years ago

Good morning everyone. I am seriously contemplating a change of career from teaching (19 years) to working for a non-profit organisation. I am an English Teacher and believe that I have many transferable skills. I have also volunteered in the charity sector for a few years. I was wondering if anyone else has made a similar transition and might be able to advise me on the best way to go about this. Is there any recognised training that would be useful or is it better to learn on the job? Should I be considering starting lower down the ladder before I apply for something with more responsibility? I have signed up with charityjob.co.uk and I'm in the process of fine-tuning my CV for the charity sector. Any advice would be much appreciated.
