Former Account Manager
Posted 10 months ago
First of all, thank you for taking the time to read my post. Apologies in advance for the long spiel! 😆
I've spent the past five years or so working in wholesale and account management in the fashion industry, but after becoming increasingly uncomfortable with the industry's impact on the environment, its treatment of garment factory workers and the general lack of accountability, I am now looking for a new challenge and career that is altogether more fulfilling and beneficial to society and the world in general. 🌍
The realisation that I have (as yet) undiagnosed ADHD has been a key driver in looking for something more meaningful and aligned with my personal values.
I am considering and have been, so far unsuccessfully, applying for entry-level roles in fundraising. I am also an advocacy volunteer member of Impulse London, an LGBTQ+ community organisation that focuses on sexual health and mental wellbeing. Although still pretty new, I have been involved in some great advocacy projects during lockdown and have become interested in exploring the area of campaigining, as I think it could be a good way to incorporate my creativity into my career.
So, basically, I would love any advice you may have on how to go about building my new career.... volunteering/internship opportunities, groups I can join, courses I can take, tips and tricks, mentoring etc; all would be greatly appreciated!
Also, anyone who has ADHD, feel free to hit me up as it would be great to connect and chew the cud with like-minded people. 😊
