A similar but much smaller charity to ours seems to be experiencing severe challenges. They generated just under £10m income last year and their CEO posted a message on LinkedIn yesterday, giving an update for how much of the £750m funding they could apply for. At best, around £20k. At worst, maybe nothing at all. This is such a small fraction of the money that's been made available by the chancellor of the exchequer.
Over two thirds of their staff have been furloughed and to add insult to injury, their entire personnel roster was posted online as part of the furlough skills swap. I contacted their head of IT to tell him the permissions were too relaxed, but I saw they have 80 salaried positions before this was fixed. Their senior staff, including the CEO, have all taken temporary reductions in salary. These are hard times for them, particularly when 70% of their income had been provided by their 61 charity shops.
Of course these are hard for the entire third sector and it made me think about if this charity's experience of applying to the chancellor's £750m rescue package was repeated across the board. Does their situation ring true for anyone else here?
