Thoughts on individual giving?

Hello, I'm new here so forgive me if this has been asked before. I'm interested to know what percentage of small charities (income under £500,000) use individual giving and legacy donations.
Do you think it's worth giving it a try for a small charity? Or is it only for bigger charities/charities with a very specific/'donor-attractive' purpose? Is it a bother/expense to set up if no results?
