What are the ups and downs of changing from CIC to charity status?

Has anyone got any thought's on what the downside is to convert from a non-profit CIC to a Charity
As a lot of these foundations and trust will not look at CIC.
And as far as I can see if a business if your lucky gives a donation then it can be written off against their tax.
Where as CIC donations from a business can not be written off.
