What happens if your CIO application gets refused

PHILIP LYON Manager at Housing Need Posted 18 hours ago

I see a lot of posts here from trustees who've just been refused, or who are stuck after the Commission's asked for more information, without many clear answers – so wanted to put something together for anyone in that position right now, as I was.
A few things worth checking straight away if you've been refused:
  • Read the refusal letter as a list of separate objections, not one vague verdict. Each point needs its own direct answer, not a general rewrite.
  • Check your own website says the same thing as your application. Mismatches are one of the most common causes of refusal, and an easy one to miss.
  • Use real numbers and named partners where you can, not general claims – "37 people helped last year," not "we help many people."
  • Stuck at the "more information requested" stage and not sure it's worth continuing? Most cases like this aren't a dead end, they just need a resubmission that directly answers what was actually asked. (mine was refused).
I got this feedback from a drafting service which I found really helpful. I was stuck and needed help to be able to reapply.  I am now waiting again for application approval but more confident than I was when I got the refusal letter.  Worth a look just for the tips section.  Good luck!
Regards Phil
