So my battles are over. I've had enough.
As some of you may recall I've had to fight the Office Bearers in my little charity for recognition that all committee members were trustees. It took a month for them to give in.
Then there was a tussle over changes to the constitution driven by our manipulative treasurer, his final act before leaving. The minor changes were passed by holding an EGM that didn't follow the constitution. None of the changes addressed the deep governance challenges with trustee recognition.
During the summer silence I've learnt that 8 of our 14 trustees will be stepping down. Hardly a surprise given we were all became trustees without our consent.
A side discussion has revealed that next year's trustee board will be 7 individuals of which 3 are teachers at the school we support. The Chair refuses to acknowledge there is any conflict of interest or need for any due diligence tests for grant applications etc public good or match with our aims as "they go without saying". Ditto any need for induction for new or existing trustees.
So everything will carry on as before.
I reach the end of my term in October and will be leaving knowing the team I lead raised £10k+ each year, that the committee are recognised as trustees and pressed home that proper governance was needed.
Is there anything more I could reasonably have done?
