How can I afford to work in the charity sector? - Anonymous

This question is from a member of our community that wishes to remain anonymous:

''I've not been working since resigning from my last NHS post which wasn't financially viable. Following caring for my terminal ill partner I've not been able to find a new post which I can actually afford to do. Changes in health commissioning mean health promotion posts have disappeared. Most charity jobs I've seen seem to be part-time and too lowly paid even before the pro-rata calculation. How do I find a post that actually is going to pay my mortgage and let me eat? I've lots of skills, been published in a peer-reviewed journal and presented at numerous international conferences. I'm 57 and I'm running out of cash.''
