How did you get your first charity role?

Hi All,

I'm currently looking to enter the non-profit sector, ideally within fundraising. I have two years B2B Sales Experience and 6 years volunteering experience with an International charity plus extensive volunteering with other international and national level charities.

I've been looking for a role for 6 months now and despite numerous interviews and lots of positive feedback I've consistently been told my lack of sector experience is seeing myself pipped by other candidates.

Clearly this is somewhat frustrating as everyone lacks sector experience at some point so I wanted to ask the community, just how did you get your first charity role?

Another challenge I'm facing is I've only interviewed with large national and international charities, I've tried targeting smaller organisations but have yet to receive a single interview. Is there a better way to approach the smaller orgs?
