Sabbatical for senior member of staff

Hi Everyone, I am about ot embark on establishing a sabbatical procedure/policy for our organisation with the intention that it will serve a senior member of staff and any future requests; this is not something I have done before but I am keen to 1) get it right and 2) ensure that we are working within HR legislation. We are with peninsula so I am obviously talking to them too but wondered if anone had any experience of this
