Seeking Advice: Debt Restructuring, Consolidation & Social Finance for a Charity Ready to Scale
I would really value the experience and collective knowledge of the CharityConnect community.
I am the Founder and CEO of Gmax TrackStars, an award-winning grassroots charity using athletics, mentoring, wellbeing and personal development to create opportunities for young people.
After many years of building our model, partnerships, programmes and community reach, we have reached an important turning point.
Our challenge is no longer a lack of ideas or opportunities. In fact, we now have significant opportunities to grow our programmes, partnerships and earned-income activities. The challenge is that historic debt and short-term borrowing are creating a cycle that restricts cash flow and makes it much harder to invest in the opportunities we have worked so hard to create.
We therefore want to move from managing debt to restructuring for sustainable growth.
I would be extremely grateful to hear from anyone in this community who has experience of helping charities or social enterprises with:
- Debt consolidation or restructuring
- Social investment and patient capital
- Refinancing expensive short-term borrowing
- Recoverable grants or blended finance
- Working-capital facilities for charities
- Turnaround or business-rescue support
- Impact investment
- Introductions to specialist lenders, foundations or social investors
- Strengthening financial structures ahead of organisational growth
We are not looking for a temporary solution that simply moves debt from one place to another. We want to build a responsible, affordable and sustainable financial structure that allows Gmax to maximise the social and commercial opportunities already being developed.
We have spent years building the infrastructure, credibility, partnerships and community reach. Our priority now is to ensure that historic financial pressures do not prevent us from converting that work into sustainable impact and income.
If anyone within CharityConnect — including the CharityConnect team itself — can recommend organisations, advisers, social investors, funders or specialist programmes that work with charities at this particular stage, I would be enormously grateful for an introduction or conversation.
Sometimes an organisation does not need another good idea — it needs the right financial intervention at the right moment to unlock the value it has already created.
We believe Gmax is at that moment.
