Following the Charity Commission’s article on large charities making a surplus and smalls a deficit, I ran an exercise looking at small charities being treated as bid candy by larger ones. Two thirds had been approached but only 9% felt they received a fair share of the funding – I asked them what smalls want from grant makers to make grants more effective and fairer and they did not disappoint. I also asked about the impact of the Civil Society Covenant, only 8% expected it to have real/major impact.
