Small Unincorporated Charity

Joy Clay SCN8A Posted 21 days ago

Not sure if this is the right place to ask but my husband and some other parents set up a small chairty for children with the same condition as our daughter (we registered with HMRC so we could claim gift aid  but not with the charity commission as we don't expect to raise more than £5,000 a year). Today I received a letter from HMRC requesting a company tax return and accounts and saying they will fine us if we do it wrong.  Sadly my husband (who would have been good at this)  died last month from cancer and i really don't understand what i need to do. The charity has only raised about £2,000 and spent £200 and we've not claimed any gift aid yet, although i have a list of people who i can claim for when i work out how to do it. I've been searching for examples of accouts for tiny charities but not found anything, can anyone help or tell me who can help? Thanks lots
