I'm doing an 830ish mile sponsored walk for Freegle this summer. Freegle is unusual in charity terms, in that we have a large number of online users (2.8 million in total, 600K in the last year).  Plus we know where they are, because we have their postcodes.
This means we can try out some interesting things with our user base, which I thought might be interesting to other charities.
1) I've deliberated planned the walk to go more or less along the south coast, because that's fairly densely populated.
2) I can then find the people who live within 10 miles or so of my route.  That takes a little code, but not much.
3) I can invite them to meet up with me, and/or sponsor me.  Those mails can be automated.
We'll see how well this works, and I'll report back on this thread.  Has anyone else done any interesting things with geographical data about their supporters?
