What's the difference between these charity reserves? (Unrestricted, designated, free...)

Sandra Woodward Charity Manager at The BIG Sing SOUL Posted 4 years ago

In a recent grant application I was asked for information about reserves.
Unrestricted, designated, restricted, free reserves .....
I do not understand all the different terminology to work out what gets included in each area. I am a small charity with no fixed assets, one salary to pay, very little costs (paper/ink/travel/refreshment consumables) other than the specific projects we fund. We get grants for specific projects, plus donations from fundraising which we can choose for various projects.   Can anyone help me out please.
