Accountant/bookkeeper treasurer

We have a historical situation where many years ago the part-time account and/book keeper became a trustee and treasurer of our charitable trust (not the CIC). So, they were paid for their services as a treasurer and they claimed an hourly rate for sitting in trustee meetings. Prior to being a trustee that made sense.

We feel that this is not correct and want them to step down as trustee or not charge for sitting in meetings.

Are we right?
