Advice on workshop for volunteers with mixed levels of skills

Clare Taylor Project Coordinator - Community Climate Champions at Cumbria Action for Sustainability Posted 1 year ago

Hi all,
I coordinate a small network of volunteer 'climate champions'. I've inherited a project model and this is my second year running it. Each year we recruit new volunteers, who all get various training and then are supported to host climate events in their community, to help encourage awareness and positive change to address the climate crisis.
As part of the training I have to deliver a Train the Trainer style workshop that covers basic legalities re GDPR, health and safety, safeguarding, and advice on delivering a good presentation. This aspect is considered mandatory for anyone who wants to volunteer, regardless their past experience. So I may have people to train who are far more experienced than I am, listening to the workshop, alongside those who have far less experience. Hence v difficult to make relevant to all, all the time. I have limited time to deliver it so couldn't do one version for ppl with less experience and another for those with more.
I've delivered a version of this several times before, so I have the slides set up. I just cringe at the thought of delivering it because it feels unnecessary for some.
I just wondered if anyone else has done similar training to a varied group and had any suggestions?
I will acknowledge that the group has varied experience and if anyone would like to offer their suggestions on - for example - best practice for presenting - they'd be welcome to do so.
Many thanks
Clare
