An impossible Job - Anonymous

Recruitment

A CharityConnect User Posted 7 years ago

This question is from a member of our community that wishes to remain anonymous:

''A really good development position came up at a large charity quite close to where I live. I applied for the position. I did lots of homework on the requirements in the advert and I did the best interview I could.

I got the job! I'm now a month into what is a two-year contract, to work on seven specific funding needs and avenues.

There is a problem though. Seven of them actually. I've been through each of the parts of the work and found that really none of them have either been done very well before, or are completely impractical. The communication with possible large donors and supporters is not good at all. One project is to advertise the premises for corporate use but the building has problems (no parking) and there are two other charities nearby who are already doing this, plus three corporate offers.

I've reported back to my CEO as carefully and as objectively as I can but they have been very dismissive and I have the feeling I won't last beyond the trial period, if not have to leave before (if you know what I mean!).

The offices are really easy to get to. I like lots of the people I work with. I just can't see a way to get any of the seven projects to work. There wasn't enough thought put into them. Finding another job like this one will be very difficult but if I do leave, what do I put on my CV?''
