I've had several discussions this week about the need for innovation in the charity industry and fundraising in particular. Everyone I've spoken to agree new ideas are needed especially on the backdrop of a pandemic.

But why don't charities innovate?

What has your experience been when trying to innovate?

Innovation tends to fail. It's how you find out if a new idea is good or not. The problem is charities can't fail as frequently or costly compared to co-operation.

NGOs play by a different set of rules, largely due to donor expectations.

But that inability to truly innovate is what leads to donor fatigue.

So we get stuck in this cycle.

But what about grant funding? Is there particular grants funds out there dedicated only to innovation? I've not come across but if you have comment below.
