BAME Service Users

General Discussion

Hi.  We are a food bank / soup kitchen.  There is some new funding available for people suffering hardship due to COVID-19.  At a meeting with the LA yesterday a lady from an Equality charity was very vocal that we should ensure that BAME communities were helped.  The demographic of the area is 97.4% white, with the majority of the non-white community being either wealthy or in successful careers.  We have never kept track of the skin colour of our service users, we help anyone that needs help.  How do we prove that we are not excluding non-white people without adding a question to our registration form asking whether or not the applicant is white.  I would welcome comments from people who have dealt with similar issues.
