Best bank account for a charity

Alison Smedley Campaigns & Public Affairs Manager at The Inland Waterways Association Posted 10 months ago

A small charity that I am a trustee for has recently been told that our bank (HSBC) is going to start charging £5 a month plus fees for all transactions.  Can anyone recommend banks that are still offering free banking for charities and community groups, and is it worth the pain of changing bank accounts and risk losing some of the people who pay their membership fee by standing order along the way?
As a separate issue, we are thinking about setting any new account up with internet banking, but are worried about the current processes in place whereby we need 2 signatories on a cheque for outgoing transactions.  Does anyone know if there are any internet banking accounts that allow for a 2 way check before payments are made?
