Charitable Trust to CIO

Victoria Talbot Treasurer at Newport Christian Fellowship (Shropshire) Posted 3 years ago

Hello Everyone,
As well as being a treasurer for our church, I am also chair of another charitable trust which runs a community building.
For both charities we are considering changing from being charitable trusts to CIOs.
I've read quite a bit about it, including information about the way being a CIO limits the financial liability for trustees. Being less stressful for the trustees if someone decides to sue is an obvious advantage. However, from a financial perspective, if the charity already has liability insurance for its trustees, I'm wondering if the financial benefit does not make such a compelling a reason to change. Is anyone able to comment on this please? I ask because I am expecting this to come up in discussions.
Many thanks,
Victoria
