Community Netiquette: Commercial posts & fishing 🎣

CharityConnect News

CharityConnect

At CharityConnect, we're passionate about helping charity professionals, like you, with your day-to-day work challenges. So we're always here working together with you to build a safe, friendly and genuine space for you to share and grow.
There are now over 16,000 of us in the community (WOOHOO 🎉) so of course it can be tempting for some to use the community as a place to sell your services. I just want to remind everybody that CharityConnect is a community and not a marketplace.
In order to keep the community healthy, genuine and full of rich interactions, it’s time to introduce a basic community netiquette for promotional content.
Here are some simple guidelines to follow around promotional content:
Totally cool ✔️
1) Free events, free training and free opportunities (as long as it’s sector relevant!)
For example, Emily Ball sharing this fab, free event for the charity sector!
2) Recommendations for paid services (but ideally not your own!)
Just like, Ab Brightman’s CRM recommendation:
‘’I recently had a tour of the Whitefuse system and was impressed at how user friendly it would be for charities managing donations and volunteers who aren't website CMS or CRM specialists by any means, and the pricing seems decent with lots of cool features on the way from the team developing it.’’
3) Your genuinely held opinions and advice:
Sharing advice and knowledge that you genuinely hold is great, we love this blog from Anita Holford on Impact Measurement and Neil Fairbrother's blog series on podcasts!

Sorry, not for us ❌
1) Posts that have a clear financial gain, for example, sharing a service that would profit you
2) Lead generation or prospecting
3) Posts that just share a link to your own website or resource (and nothing else)! For more on our link sharing rules, please read this post
4) Starting a thread to share your CV or professional experience in a bid to find a job or work from the community

Communities are about genuine connections and we want to make sure charity professionals like you have the best experience when using CharityConnect 🤗. I hope these guidelines are clear and make sense to you all. Any questions, please comment below or drop me a Direct Message.
The CharityConnect Team ✌💖
