Funding advice to help sustain a small charity

Trusts & Grants

Steve Smith Centre Manager at Sidcup Debt Advice Posted 1 year ago

Hi all - we at Sidcup Debt Advice are small compared to others. We are finding an increase in clients since 2020 and have 2 contracted Admin staff at 14hrs per week (which is the bulk of the funding at around £950 per month) - in Debt Advice, Admin is key as it includes writing to Creditors and negotiating with them for clients or in  starting a DRO (Debt Relief Order).
The majority of our clients are referred from Pier Road in Erith and we are also waiting for them to provide some funding via the Maudsley and St Giles Trust who fund them. We are about 3 months from being in a very bad state as the Lottery rejected our September application in November and I've had health problems since then which have impacted my usual funding enthusiasm! We are willing to talk to anyone who is skilled at Lottery (or anywhere) applications and either charge reasonably or charge for success as a % of the total. I'm also looking into GoFundMe.
Any help or a good contact for a small charity such as ours would be great! We want to expand the work if we can - Pier Road referrals are usually homeless or escaping substance abuse and we absolutely love to help them - we are a team of 8 including 4 Trustees.
Thanks and regards for any ideas,
Steve Smith
