How to take care of volunteers when there's less work

Cynthia Williamson Coordinator at Charity Posted 4 years ago

Hi there
I'm looking for some advice and ideas on how to take care of volunteers when there is apparently nothing for them to do.
The charity I work for partners with the local authority to match volunteers with people in need (in Covid times). Generally those who are self isolating who might need help with shopping, prescriptions and calls.
We have 'inherited' a lovely group of committed volunteers who were not given tasks in the first wave and were never kept in touch with those who were organising them previously (LA)
So my questions are - how do we keep them on board and feel valued? (we may not need their help now, but might in the future)
And does anyone have any ideas for creating opportunities for 'Covid volunteers' when the typical shopping/calling/prescription roles aren't needed?

Thanks so much for reading,
C
