Question:
Hi all,
I’m thinking about running a simple prize draw as a thank-you for people who attend our upcoming online events. The idea is that, at the end of each session, attendees can email me if they’d like to be added to the draw. I’ll pop their names into a spreadsheet and once the full series of events has finished, I’ll use a random number generator to pick a winner. The prize would be something like a £100 John Lewis or Sainsbury’s voucher.
It’s not a fundraising draw,  just a fun incentive to boost engagement but I want to make sure we’re not accidentally wandering into any legal grey areas. From your experience:
·        Is this kind of draw fine to run without a licence, since there’s no payment or donation involved?
·        Would you suggest having any basic terms and conditions or other safeguards in place?
·        Any tips for keeping it fair and transparent (in case anyone ever asks how the winner was chosen)?
I would really value any advice or lessons learned from anyone who’s done something similar!
Thanks
