Dear all, could I ask for your process when it comes to reappointment of trustees once they come to the end of their term (and are eligible for reappointment)?

Do they go through the full appointment process again or do you have a simple board vote?

Our governance document state that trustees are eligible for reappointment (taken verbatim from model CC wording), but is unclear on the exact process.

To my mind the appointment process is to ensure the candidate is suitable and therefore it would seem reasonable to assume there is no requirement to go through a full appointment panel again if someone's term is lapsing and they are being reappointed.

I note that the Charity Governance Code states after 9 years reappointments should be "subject to a particularly rigorous review" which would seem to imply returning to an appointment panel. I believe the further implication  is compatible with my take on the reappointment process for those reaching the end of terms having served less tgsn 9 years.
