Structure Advice needed - special needs family play session

A CharityConnect User Posted 6 years ago

Hi :)
I am a mother of 2 boys who are both on the autism spectrum. I recently began a twice monthly sensory play session at my local community centre for families with children with learning difficulties and/or additional needs. It has been an instant success and now I would like to register - im just struggling with which structure is best. I want to be able to apply for funding and grants and grow the group but i am unsure of what my role should be.
Who is in control of the money with a CIC structure? If i was a trustee would being the chair be the best for me to maintain control?
Is the non - profit structure better?
Ideally chartable status is what i want but i want to protect myself and my programme.
I have 3 potential trustees who would have specific roles that would be agreed on but i worry about liability as i and one of the trustees would be the manly applying for grants and funding. Any advice would be great so i can get this show on the road!! :)
