Which legal structure is best for me for my idea

George Hinton founder at nutrition r3volution Posted 2 months ago

Hi
Thank you in advance for any advice

I am looking to set up a mental health charity in the north west and am at the point of deciding the right company structure

I have been researching all day and think I have a seed of an idea but would really appreciate some advice

I want to be in control of the organisation and steer operations and decisions but would also like a board for us to vote on each move the charity makes.

Also in an ideal world at some point in a few years once the charity has proven itself I would like to if possible take a paid role but still remain in charge.

Is this possible... my thoughts so far were if I make it a charity incorporated organisation (CIO) with me as head chair on a board of trustees

Then at a later point when the role of CEO is needed when the company gets bigger and needs someone full time as opposed to me doing it voluntarily on part time, could I then apply for the role through a fair interview process open to other applicants with me being no part of the decision.
If I did do this then would my role then be only as employee and I could be fired and replaced ?
If this happened would i then have no role in the charity I started?
Control and involvement long term is more important to me than getting paid as I only trust my intentions to do whats best for this idea long term , so what should I do

thanks
