I became a Trustee of my local community centre last year and became Vice Chair. I am also a councillor for my ward and so helped build a relationship with the council officers during what was a very trying time for the then and current Trustees. 

 

We lived through a year and a half of Brexit like negotiations, triggering of a break clause by a larger charity who broke the agreement to run the centre and more negotiations u-turns and decision to prorogue or not prorogue the centre. I told you it was like Brexit.

We are currently in a period of taking control of the community centre now that the other charity have decided no longer to want to take over the lease and manage it. We had 2-3 weeks after their change of mind to get on with HR, TUPE, payment systems and more. Moving over to the CIO for greater protection and trying to get our ICT and payment and booking systems set up and rebranding is on the to do list too. 

 

There's a lot of aspiration to improve the community offerings, however the obstacle is currently funding.
