Anyone have experience of using Airtable as an early-stage CRM?

We are a very small charity still in its early build phase. We have no funds or donor-base at the moment and are just beginning to look towards our CRM and email marketing infrastructure -- so are considering Airtable + an email platform as an interim measure before moving onto Beacon or something similar in a year's time.
Does anyone have any experience of using Airtable as a single source of truth, then synced with an email platform? What have been the pros and cons for you? Does it sync well external systems? Do you still have to import/export data to/from Airtable by hand?
Any thoughts would be welcome.
