Been doing some research, but would really welcome any insights or recommendations people have on some of the packages out there.

Is anyone aware of a free or low-cost CRM/Tracking package that provides similar functionality to VCS tracker ? We don' have a massive client list, but do need to keep track of complex information and effectively log interactions - 'who's said what to whom, when' type of stuff, if that makes sense.

I'd also be grateful for any thoughts about task/project management software that supports branching tasks with dependency - ideally of the 'if this then that' type - some form of progress chasing tools would be really useful as well.

I'm fairly technically minded, so not scared of complex set-ups, but I do like things that work in a visual way, and I know this to be true of most of my colleagues
