How are small charities navigating accessibility laws?

Hi there,
I'm just curious what other small charities have done about accessibility laws? We try to take this into consideration but we haven't had a formal audit of our website.
How much do other small charities do in this area, is there any exemption (of course we want our website and resources to be as accessible as possible), what happens if you're penalised and how much do audits and website overhauls tend to cost? We have less than £30k in the bank at the moment.
