This question is from a member of our community that wishes to remain anonymous:
I'm seeking some guidance. I've been employed by a health charity for over four years in an officer role. My responsibilities include policy, research, and communications (keeping it general to maintain anonymity).
From time to time, 'Senior' officer positions become available in the (health) charity sector. How common is it for charities to 'promote' their officers to 'senior' positions? I haven't observed this happening within my organisation. I have colleagues who have held officer roles for much longer than I have.
What are the chances of me getting a promotion? Is it reasonable to think that even if they consider promoting me, they would need to justify why I deserve it over another officer who has been there longer? If I want to discuss this with management, what should I keep in mind?
