Implications of volunteers using their personal vehicle?

Hi there - I'm looking for some guidance on the required or common practices around volunteers using their own vehicles when undertaking work with our charity.

We're redesigning our volunteers application form and wondering if we can ask if the person has a driving licence so that in future we might be able to search for volunteers who drive and can coordinate group pick ups.

But in the event that we ask this, and that we might need volunteers to provide lifts to each other, do they need to have any specific insurance, like we would for an employee needing SDP and commuting when they are using a personal car for work purposes?
