Campaigning

A CharityConnect User Posted 6 years ago

I've been thinking a lot recently about the challenges of campaigning in the current political climate where Brexit is dominating Parliamentary business and media headlines. I read a great post the other day which was discussing how Brexit is being blamed for charity campaigns failing and challenging whether that is really an accurate analysis or if it has become a convenient excuse.
From my experience of working in the Disability charity world for almost a decade, having a Tory Government presents lots of challenges for campaigns on particular issues where you know the Government won't budge or they have a particular policy on an issue (disability benefits being a case in point and ongoing battle). It can quickly become demoralising which isn't the most conducive to inspiration. This isn't just the case for those of us working in the sector but also for our supporters- how do we keep them engaged and make them feel their support is impactful when facing these blockers?
So, I am interested to start a discussion about how we break through the barriers and Brexit noise to still make our important causes heard. My hope is that this fabulous community can act as a means to crowdsource some inspiration that can offer reassurances to those who might be struggling to keep their passion alive in the fact of an uphill struggle.
Has anyone run or seen an innovative (sorry, I know that word gets over used!) campaign that has had an impact? What do you think made it work?
How do we overcome the malaise that can be experienced when things aren't going as planned?
Look forward to hearing your thoughts
