I was going to start a masters degree last year. But things changed, got a charity sector job, and now love my job and this sector!
I still fancy doing a masters degree. i live near Liverpool so have looked at the unis there, but can't really see anything relating to community/charity, that kind of thing. Does anyone have any knowledge of anything related to the sector or an Masters level qualification I could look at? I guess it would be online learning if I can't find anything locally, but I have done some quals with the OU and probably wouldn't want to go there again if I'm honest. Any tips/advice appreciated.
Thanks.
Have a good weekend everyone.

Hey Charlotte
There are a few different programmes offered by the CASS Business School in London.
Also worth looking at the courses being offered by the Institute of Fundraising. With their move to chartered status, I wonder if this is going to expand? I did their very first Future Leaders training programme and the networks you build up as a result are amazing.
Good luck with whatever you go on to do!
All the best

Some ideas:
1.  Nesta has incredible innovative research and resources that to follow is eye opening, in terms of community engagement and far more.  If unable to attend their events, their reports are available online.  Living in Greater London I can more often attend which is incredible.
Nesta has done research in Liverpool and the North West and occasionally has events there.
3.  My master's in 1979 was in public health, MPH.  A large proportion of what I learned there would be relevant to the community and the charity sector.  The focus on epidemiology and access to the tool of statistics is entirely relevant.  On my course in Dundee, more students were from abroad than from the UK.  Many of them had wide experience of community health issues.  A Liverpool based MPH would be very likely to attract a wide range of students from other parts of the world.
A Master's in public health would give you an overview of the relationships of statutory, corporate and third sector contributions to health and welfare.  It would give an overview of the whole political and social geography, and in your own thesis, to work in detail on an area that is directly relevant to you and your role.
4.  For anyone in your space I would recommend following what the ODI (Open Data Institute) is offering.  For example, its open mapping insights into tools that are available and showing how they are being used to transform communities might give you an immediate opportunity and / or a head start on what you might study in a master's course.

Hi Charlotte
I can thoroughly recommend the CASS Masters. There were plenty of students who travelled from the North West to do it so the distance isn't insurmountable.
All the best

Michael Barnett   Thanks for this Michael, the courses do look great. Any idea how often you would be expected to attend on a part time basis? It's not just time although I'm a bit pushed for that, it's the train fares!

Charlotte Bilton
Hi.  Sorry for the slow response - what were you saying about time!
The latest details will be on the Cass website.  For the PGDip, it is around 12 trips (most are for Friday and Saturday) over the course of a year.  Here's the link to Accounting and Finance course with the details but there are four other modules.
