Wheelchair policy/training

We are seeing an increasing number of clients who use wheelchairs, and our volunteers often provide support to them. We want to ensure that volunteers are able to offer appropriate and practical assistance while maintaining safety, dignity, and independence.

Would you recommend providing specific training for volunteers who support wheelchair users? If so, what topics should be covered? Should we also develop a policy or guidance document outlining the support volunteers can provide and any boundaries or health and safety considerations?

We would appreciate any advice or examples of good practice.
