For the past 12 years I have been a professional in the not-for-profit sector, and combine this with unpaid voluntary work within three community based charities.
I chair a Board of Trustees for a Charitable Incorporated Organisation - Friends of South Park Gardens. I have held this position since early 2018, and have been a Trustee since 2016. This role is unpaid. It requires the same oversight and scrutiny of governance, risk and financial management - the charity generates income from multiple sources. Moreover, observing the charity objects is essential in the decision making process. Fundraising events are arranged - I lead the team which, for the largest event comprises around 100 volunteers and 1,400 attendees, is responsible for safeguarding and health and safety for all involved. The Gardens play a vital role in the local community and require responsible management, ethical and sustainable leadership and succession planning for the future.
I am also involved as an active unpaid volunteer in two further charities. The Wimbledon Guild of Social Welfare (since 2008) - my involvement is customer facing roles at fundraising events, and befriending.
The Dons Local Action Group (associated with AFC Wimbledon Foundation) was established initially as a local response to food poverty with the onset of COVID-19. Here, I lead a team of virtual volunteers staffing the public-facing hotline for all telephone enquiries as well as store collection at supermarkets. This organisation has grown in size and scope since March 2020.
