Being a genealogical researcher, I am a forward thinking, capable and committed person with a proven ability to meet agreed deadlines, co-ordinate work and work to defined researching methodologies within a structured environment. Focused on any task at hand and able to utilize existing knowledge and experiences to come up with practical solutions and alternatives to researching processes. Being the owner of a genealogical research business it has shown me peoples ideologies of what they expect, and how cheaply they can get their research for.
I personally expect Clients pay for our TIME and EXPERTISE. We are not selling products which are finite quantities. Why would we cheapen our value by doing packages? The first hour is just as valuable as the last hour spent on the project. The report, analysis, and explanations of the records (both found and not found) are valuable insights into the problem. If we don't solve it in the budgeted time, then the report should be a solid basis on which to build future research. It may look like a commodity but it is the outward expression of our own thoughts and words. It is what goes on in the mind of the researcher that we are "selling" in the quantity of the time unit called "per hour."
Educating clients that genealogy research is a profession and not a commercial sale will let them understand this concept -- and they will be glad to pay for your expertise.
