AGM for unincorporated charity in process of incorporating

We are a small unincorporated charity that is in process of changing to CIO. We have held off the AGM so that we can have the new constitution approved with current exec committee and then have AGM with election on new constitution and select new exec committee as to the new constitution.
I was told that we need to have an AGM and election of exec to the old constitution and then vote for approval of new constitution and then have another adm to elect exec committee as set in the new constitution.
Can anyone advise proper procedure to change from old constitution to new constitution with regards to AGM.
