Unincorporated community group to CIO

Finance

Matt Powell Encore Wales Posted 1 month ago

Hi,
I help run a small community theatre group that has been running for 18 months.  Due to grants and funding, we'll likely exceed the £5k revenue per year, so we need to be a charity.
I've successfully applied and have been granted a CIO - but, AFAIK, that is a different legal entity.
So we need to wrap up the existing group (call a general meeting to dissolve and vote on transfer of assets to the CIO), and then ensure members are happy for their details to be passed across to the CIO.
We'll also require a new Bank Account, and we can transfer money from the original group into the account of the CIO.
I believe we can also, optionally, register with HMRC purely for gift-aid purposes.
Anything I'm missing?
Thanks
